I'm surprise that Microsoft recommended upgrading to 802.11g (in step 10) instead of upgrading to 802.11n. If the network issues were due to interference than 802.11b and 802.11g would both be affected in almost the same way given that they are both using the 2.4 GHz band with different modulations.

At least with 802.11n you could start using multi-path to your advantage, even if you didn't move to the 5 GHz band. Not to mention, the increased number of Rx antennas will dramatically improve signal quality.

I like the list, nonetheless, just surprised at item 10. What are your thoughts?

I am pulling out my hair setting up wireless in my office. I like your 10 steps, but many require additional purchases and what if they don't work? I'll bookmark the above list and work through it. Wish me luck.

For those you on intel 3945, to start monitor mode, type:

modprobe -r iwl3945
modprobe ipwraw
airmon-ng start wifi0

This will use the ipwraw driver instead of the default. You must also use 'wifi0' instead of 'auth0' as your interface. Continue by typing:

airodump-ng wifi0
